Death by Digital

Good Morning Everyone! Here's a story I saw on CNN this morning about the Virgin megastore in Times Square going out of business. Digital downloads are becoming the most popular way to access music and the result is the closing of retail CD outlets. I can't imagine a world without CD's, but it may be in our future. The Age of Access is upon us!

  1. It is great that we have digital downloads at our fingertips. However, I doubt my kids will have the experience of looking for CDs in a store when they are teenagers. It’s wonderful that through the internet we can find almost anything. But more and more traditional experiences like going to the library, figuring out mathematics, and media store shopping are becoming a thing of the past.

  2. There seems to be a loss in entertainment value, also. It is fun to go to a music store a browse through what is available, much better then strolling the aisles of WalMart. As a teenager I was in Sam Goody's and Tower Records all the time. I don't think Sam's even exist anymore and Towers are closing all over the place. Instead we will be "browsing" by watching the computer screen and not getting up out of our chairs and into the real world. As more retail closes the option to do that narrows.

  4. Great post, Ginger. I am a music lover...most things from Glenn Miller to Weather Report to Earth Wind and Fire to NWA to Taste of Honey and Lalah Hathaway....

It's crazy, but the internet is becoming our dictator in such a scary way. Convenience is becoming confining. Yes, options seem limitless these days, but the pseudo-freedom and access to easy convenience is stripping many of personal preference.
